Pre-trip checklist
Work through this a week or two before you fly. Most of it is far easier to sort out at home than in Makkah.
Documents and money

- A change of clothes, in case a bag is late

- An empty water bottle to fill after security
Ihram and clothing
- Two sets of ihram, and a spare
- A belt or pouch that holds a passport
- Loose, modest clothing for a warm country

- A cloth bag for your shoes, since they come off constantly
- A light layer for the aeroplane and for early mornings

Scent is not permitted in ihram, so buy these unscented before you travel rather than hoping to find them there.

Do I need a visa for Umrah?
Yes. Everyone travelling from the Netherlands needs an Umrah visa, and it is arranged as part of your trip rather than by you separately.
How do I book an Umrah trip?
Choose a package, then set it up the way your party needs it: the room type, how many adults and children are travelling, and any extras. The price updates as you go, so you always see what the trip costs before you commit to anything.
When you are happy with it you go through to checkout, fill in your details and pay. Your confirmation follows as soon as the payment settles.
How far are the hotels from the Haram?
Every hotel we use shows its walking distance to the Haram on the package page, along with its rating and which city it is in.
It is the thing most worth comparing between trips, and it is the main reason two otherwise similar packages differ in price.
How long is the flight?
A direct flight from Amsterdam to Jeddah takes roughly six hours. With a stop, expect anywhere between nine and fourteen hours depending on the connection.
Each package page shows the airline and both legs, so you can see before you book whether your trip is direct.
Are meals included?
It depends on the package, and where meals are included the package page says which ones.
Where they are not, there is plenty to eat around both Harams at every price.
Do I have to pay the whole amount at once?
No. You can secure your booking with a deposit and pay the rest later, or pay the full amount straight away if you would rather have it done with.
